Day at Chamonix

At 4810m Mont Blanc is the highest summit in Europe. Since it was first climbed in 1786, Mont Blanc has come to represent the spirit of conquest of the mountains and has made Chamonix an international skiing and mountaineering capital. Chamonix – elevation 1035m – nestles between two valleys and welcomes its visitors all year round. It is, nevertheless, a more accessible place in the summer. Surrounded by 3000m peaks, the area has a distinctly high mountain atmosphere and the exploratio of its unique natural heritage is open to everone.

Tour of Annecy, the old town and the lake : 10.00 a.m. > 12.00 a.m.

This walking tour allows you to get to know Annecy, capital of the Duchy of Geneva until the 14th century, then brought into the Duchy of Savoy, and finally made part of France in 1860.

During the tour :

• to the Palais de l’Ile, formerly the prison and courthouse, today an Annecy municipal museum,
• to the Annecy castle, classified as a historical monument by the French state,
• to one or two churches, Saint Maurice and/or Saint François de Sales,
• to the Sainte Claire and Perrière gates, the traditional market.

We will take in all the history of the town of Annecy finishing with the contemporary period without forgetting to speak of the exemplary purification of the lake which won the city a grand prize from UNO in 1972 and made possible the substantial tourist development of today.

« Les Jardins secrets » : 2.00 p.m. > 5.00 p.m.

The Secret Gardens represent a lifetime’s work. Created since 1980 by a couple with the help of their three daughters, it is a place of unique variety.Alleys, galleries, patios, courtyards, display rooms, bowers, fountains and ornamental lakes succeed each other. The visitor goes on a dream trip through an innovative blend of gardens, a real hymn to creation. The founders use different materials in an original way (flowers and plants, wood, water, pebbles, limestone, cinders, copper), making their Secret Gardens a laboratory of ideas, a melting-pot of diverse themes where East meets West.
